Friday May 6 Porto

Hooray! We tested negative for Covid! So that issue is behind us. (Three of our group were not so lucky).

This morning we boarded our motor coach and took a tour of Porto, the second largest city in Portugal. Across the river is the city of Gaia. Some great bridges here, too.

Our first goal was to see the ocean, but the fog was so thick we couldn't see it! There seem to be some beautiful parks along the waterfront. We drove around the old city and stopped for a few minutes in the main square to do some exploring (and shopping). The weather is spectacular (again!). We found some great souvenir shops and loaded up!

Our next stop was the Sao Bento Railroad station. This is a famous building with incredible tile artistry on the interior walls. It is a bit like being inside a gigantic crockery cabinet. Hard to believe how one man can accomplish this! It was completed in the early 1900s. Note the detailed scenes! Each tile is unique.

We returned to the ship and had some time to ourselves. We walked a few blocks along the river to find the area where all the action was! Lots and lots of cafe's and souvenir shops. We stopped for beer and french fries! Before dinner we were taken on a half hour trip up and down the river so we could see all the bridges!

Roast duck for dinner tonight! We joined our new friends Jayne and Cynthia from Kansas. Seems we have become fast friends! It all started back on day one when Linda and Jayne discovered they were both Samuelsons.  We promised to stay on touch. (Jayne does vacation trip planning professionally). Jayne and Cythnia have been everywhere together, leaving their husbands at home.

The red building is a McDonalds!
